This is TrustCover's own advice framework, not an independent accreditation or a guarantee of an insurance outcome.
1. How much cover, and for how long
We consider the financial need, existing arrangements and the period for which support may be needed. The aim is an appropriate amount of cover rather than simply the largest amount available.
2. How the policy is structured
A lump sum, regular payments, level or decreasing cover, and single or joint arrangements can meet different needs. We explain the structure behind the recommendation.
3. The policy detail that matters
Definitions, exclusions and claim conditions can differ between similarly priced policies. We explain the detail relevant to the cover you are considering, including important limitations.
4. How insurers assess your circumstances
Health, occupation and lifestyle can affect availability and terms. We take the insurer's assessment into account and explain any revised terms before you decide.
5. What is included and what costs extra
Additional services and optional benefits vary. We distinguish included services from paid options and explain relevant eligibility, limits and whether a service can change or be withdrawn.
6. What happens if you need to claim
For a policy arranged through TrustCover, we can explain how to start a claim, help you understand the information the insurer requests, liaise with the insurer with your permission and chase progress. The insurer assesses the claim and decides whether it meets the policy conditions. We also help you understand what cover remains after a claim.
7. What you can afford over time
We consider your budget alongside the cover available. If choices involve a compromise, we explain the trade-offs so you can decide what is sustainable for you.
8. How the cover may respond to change
We consider relevant options for changing cover and explain where conditions or further underwriting may apply. A change in circumstances can be a reason to revisit your arrangements; flexibility is not unlimited or automatic.
