Why use a protection broker?

A price tells you the cost. Advice helps you understand the cover.

Getting a price is useful. Choosing what to insure, how much cover to arrange and which terms suit you requires a closer look. That is where our advice comes in.

Start with the need

We ask about your financial commitments, dependants, existing policies and benefits through work. The aim is to identify what you want protection to achieve before selecting a product.

Compare the details

We act on your behalf when advising on and arranging protection. We compare relevant policies from our insurer panel and explain why the recommended cover fits your needs. See our insurer panel.

The amount of cover and monthly premium are only part of the decision. We also consider the policy structure, relevant definitions, exclusions, waiting periods and the insurer's assessment of your circumstances.

Make the trade-offs clear

There may be several ways to use your budget. We explain why we recommend a particular approach and where a different choice would change the protection available.

How the process works

An initial conversation. Tell us what you need help with. We explain our service and gather the information needed to advise you.

Research and recommendation. We assess suitable options and explain what we recommend, why it fits and what you need to understand about it.

Your decision and application. If you proceed, we help you complete the application accurately. The insurer may ask for further information before making an offer. We explain any revised terms before you decide.

Help with a claim

For a policy arranged through TrustCover, we can explain how to start a claim, help you understand the information the insurer requests, liaise with the insurer with your permission and chase progress. The insurer assesses the claim and decides whether it meets the policy conditions.

You can also approach the insurer directly using your policy documents.

How we are paid

We do not charge you a fee for our personal protection advice or for arranging your policy. If you take out a policy through us, we receive commission from the insurer. You pay the premium for your insurance. Ask us if you would like more information about our remuneration.

Questions before you speak to us

Will you always recommend the cheapest policy? Price is part of the assessment. We explain whether a lower premium involves a difference in cover relevant to your needs.

Does using a broker guarantee acceptance? No. The insurer decides whether to offer cover and on what terms.

Can I take time to decide? Yes. Ask for explanations of anything you are uncertain about before accepting a recommendation.

Can you guarantee a claim will be paid? No. Claims are assessed by the insurer under the policy conditions. Accurate information at application and understanding the cover are important.
